(St. Paul, MN) – Summit Brewing Company today announces Gold Sovereign Ale, the sixth beer produced in its limited-time-only Unchained Series. Created by brewer Damian McConn, the beer will be available in draught the week of March 7 and in bottles the week of March 21. Gold Sovereign Ale will also include the new pry-off style bottle.

“Damian’s brew honors the pale ales of the Victorian era while using modern ingredients available only in the last few years,” said Mark Stutrud, CEO and Founder of Summit Brewing Company. “The result is an unfiltered beer with a solid malt base and an assertive character.”

Gold Sovereign Ale’s base malt, Westminster, was approved for brewing in the UK just a few years ago. McConn used the organic, floor malted version as a nod to beer production in the 19th Century. The beer has an aroma of pear, apricot and spicy orange, ending in a pronounced hop bitterness and malt flavor reminiscent of freshly baked bread.

Special kick-off events for the Gold Sovereign Ale featuring brewer Damian McConn are happening all this month.

Wednesday, March 9: Blue Door Pub in St. Paul, 3 p.m.
Wednesday, March 9: The Turf Club in St. Paul, with Hi-Fi/Lo-Fi DJs, 6 p.m.

(St. Paul, MN) – Summit Brewing Company announces the release of their Imperial Pumpkin Porter, the fifth beer to be released in the limited-time-only Unchained Series. Created by brewer Nate Siats, the beer will be available in draught the week of October 25, and in bottles mid-November.

“Nate has done a great job creating this beer infused with fall flavors,” said Mark Stutrud, CEO and Founder of Summit Brewing Company. “This beer makes you feel like you’re sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner.”

Made with locally raised pumpkin mash, Sweet China cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ginger powder, and cloves, Siats’ brew is chocolaty with a slight bitter aftertaste.

“My vision was that the beer would be perfect for a cool fall afternoon or holiday feast,” said Nate Siats. “I wanted to try something different for a pumpkin beer. Most are lighter ales; this is dark and full-bodied.”

(St. Paul, MN) – Summit Brewing is set to release its third beer in the Summit Unchained Series. Summit India-style Rye Ale by Brewer, Mike Lundell, uses at least four varieties of rye and features Summit and Citra hops.

Lundell will appear at a number of release parties the first week of March:

March 1: Jersey’s in Inver Grove Heights at 8pm
March 4: Muddy Pig in St. Paul at 6pm
March 5: Tracy’s in Mpls at 7pm
March 11: Shamrock’s in St. Paul at 6pm

According to the official Summit Brewing website, “The [Unchained Series] is an opportunity for our brewers to show off their skills and creativity. Each beer in the series will be presented by an individual brewer-the style is their choice and they are running the show!”

Summit IRA is the latest in a slew of beers with rye as a feature component coming out this year and begs the question, “Why is rye picking up steam?” Watch for an upcoming post on that very topic.
