FULL SAIL BREWING RELEASES TWO COOL WEATHER FAVORITES
Brewmaster Reserve Old Boardhead Barleywine Ale and Wreck the Halls
(Hood River, OR) – You can feel the cold in the air, the east winds are blowing and snow boarders and skiers are making their way up the mountain. The brewery is humming with the anticipation of our holiday releases and here come two of our favorites: Wreck the Halls and Old Boardhead.
(Stevens Point, WI) – The Stevens Point Brewery will release another Continue reading
(Grand Rapids, MI) – Here is plug for Facebook and following breweries on there if you aren’t already. Founders Brewing reached out to its fans yesterday with a thorough update:
“Yesterday, we celebrated our 2nd Anniversary of moving into our current location at 235 Grandville Avenue SW! Can you believe it’s already been 2 years?? Time flies when you’re making some of the best beer in the world!
Backwoods Bastard is now available, both on tap and in 4-packs in our Continue reading
(Paso Robles, CA) – Firestone Walker Brewmaster, Matt Brynildson, talks about the recently released Firestone Walker XIII. I dig it when brewers get in front of the camera and talk about their beer. If you know of any brewery-made videos about new beers or their breweries, send me the links. I wrote a geeky article about FW’s Quercus Alba Series last week.
(Grimstad (Rygene), NORWAY) – Nogne O is punishing transatlantic shipping authorities this winter with all the beer the Norwegian brewery is sending to the States. In all seriousness, AB-InBev probably ships more beer over in a day than most, if not all, craft breweries do in a year. That is not to take anything away from Nogne O, however, because four new beers in one season is nothing to sneeze at when it comes to imports.
(San Francisco, CA) – 21st Amendment Brewery is about to round out a huge month that saw its Brew Free! or Die IPA become one of the only craft beers featured on American flights when it struck a deal with Virgin America. According to Co-Founder Shaun O’Sullivan on Twitter, the brewery will soon release its third beer in cans. This comes after Hell or High Watermelon Wheat and the aforementioned Brew Free! both made their canned debuts during the summer of 2006. 21st Amendment Monk’s Blood is that beer and the first in a new series of “once-in-a-while” four-packs called The Insurrection Series.
[Update #2 from Twitter: "Label was approved and cans should arrive at end of month.for Buried Hatchet Stout. Hopefully start appear on shelf by 1st week in December"]
[Update #1 from Dave on 11/21 (providing much-needed clarity, thanks!): "Label approval was delaying production, but the software problem causing the delays has been resolved. The artwork is currently in the hands of the can manufacturer and plates are being made. We should recieve the cans in about 2 weeks, at which time they will begin to be filled. Bottom line is with any luck, you will see some of the cans leaking out by Christmas. We are beginning to test brew for some one-offs in the future. The first test batch is a smoked pumpkin ale that utilized 5 pumpkins in the mash (for 6 gallons) as well as being "dry pumpkined" with a pumpkin smoked for 6 hours with pecan wood. Weird, but pretty good. It will probably never see production, but hey- it's fun to play. We are still quite a ways out from releasing any more beers. The 2010 Pro-am competition is scheduled for early April, and will yield a new beer for draught release early summer 2010."]
(Conroe, TX) – Southern Star Brewing has been planning on this for a Continue reading
(Ithaca, NY) – Ithaca Beer Co. is wasting no time in following up on its successful release of Ithaca ELEVEN this past summer with another anniversary beer.
(Copenhagen, DENMARK) – Mikkeller has at least two more beers planned for early 2010 and has provided an update on the expected shelf debuts of several other beers before then. Here’s the scoop:
(Kalamazoo, MI) – Bell’s Brewery just got label approval for the 2008 Continue reading
(Munster, IN) – Three Floyds Brewing previewed a brand-new label for Continue reading
[1/09 Update: This beer uses Pale, Crystal, Munich, Victory malts and Northern Brewer hops. "This mysterious elixir blooms over us beginning in mid-January and can be found in the Spring Fever variety 12-paks, as well as in 6- and 12-paks all by itself." It's already available as of this weekend in some places.]
[11/24 Update: Lukas Payette noticed that Magic Hat H.I.P.A. is now listed as an offed-one on the website so Vinyl may be its replacement (unconfirmed).]
(South Burlington, VT) – Magic Hat Brewing has received label approval Continue reading
(Lucan, MN) – From a Brau Bros. email sent last night . . . “We’re getting ready to release Brau Bros. Rainwater Stout. Definitely one of our Continue reading
(Portland, OR) – Bridgeport Brewing will release Hop Czar in new six packs this winter. The beer will be available in this format for the first time since its inclusion in the Bridgeport Big Brews Series as a 22 oz. bomber. The new package will be sold beginning late December/early January as a seasonal. The bottles will be distributed to Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and California and MSRP is $7.99. 87 IBU and 7.5% ABV. MSRP $7.99.
(Paso Robles, CA) – Firestone Walker Brewing will release XIII Anniversary Ale this Saturday. When researching the series, I realized that the beer has undergone a startling price shift in the past few years. X was retailing for $10 (according to Appellation Beer) and XIII will carry a price tag of $22 when it is available at the brewery. That is not to say that the brewery is gouging. Far from it. After becoming immersed in the geekiness below, it becomes clear that the beer was once a steal at $10 and is now priced fairly for the market. Enough about dollars though . . . this is all about the blend.
This is the fourth annual barrel-aged blend, one that appears to be largely similar to last year’s version but much different from the first two editions. What they all share in common is that a variety of oak barrels are used; some are bourbon barrels, some might be brandy, some rye, etc.
The first blend showcased Abacus, a Strong English Style Barley Wine hopped with Amarillo and East Kent Goldings. Despite being the largest component of the first batch, the beer hasn’t made an appearance since that time. Bravo, an Imperial Brown Ale, was the main beer for the second batch, XI. At 82% Bravo Continue reading
(Chico, CA) – Sierra Nevada Brewing will kick off 2010 like it did 2009 . Continue reading
