Beer notes: Hair of the Dog Michael, New Glarus Unplugged 2010
Leak! So much for waiting until December. Beer Advocate member, eallured, has posted up an unofficial list of Unplugged Series beers to come from New Glarus Brewing next year: Enigma, Apple Ale, Cherry Stout, and Abt. “Also, they are ‘thinking’ of replacing Hop Hearty w/ a ‘paler, West Coast type aromatic’ ale (we all know about the beer now but interesting that it might replace one of the year-round beers).
Beer notes: Sierra Nevada Celebration and Life and Limb

Hansen responds to trademark dispute between Monster Energy, Vermonster
Hansen Beverage Company manufactures and distributes the famous MONSTER ENERGY® line of energy drinks and owns trademark registrations for the famous marks in the U.S. and throughout the world for beverages, branded apparel and other products.
Timeline: Rock Art vs. Monster Energy
(Morrisville, VT) – The stream of support for Rock Art Brewery continues on Twitter today as over 3,000 tweets have poured in over the last 30 hours. All tweets voice opposition to Hansen Beverage Co. for the ‘cease and desist’ order it sent to the small Vermont brewery. Hansen’s alleges that Rock Art is infringing on the trademark of its own Monster brand products.
At least 34 other beers have contained the word, “Monster,” at one point according to Beer Advocate so this case could have implications for other breweries attempting to trademark those beers, especially where Hansen’s is exploring entry into the alcohol market.
How did we get to this point? Here is a timeline of the events:
Rock Art Brewery stands up to Monster Energy
The video is going viral on Twitter thanks in big part to @beerinator. Continue to spread it and fight the good fight against the mega-corp backing Monster Energy in this frivolous lawsuit. Twitter is a good place to start. You should also contact Hansens, the maker of Monster Energy to voice your opinion to them directly (as I just did).

Correction on Moylan’s Kilt Lifter story
Just issuing a correction and an apology for a recent article I published here regarding Moylan’s Kilt Lifter. To clarify, the beer will still keep the name in virtually all regions except for Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and British Columbia. According to the locator on Beer Advocate, the beer is widely available with distribution in the last year to California, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Colorado, Nevada, and possibly others.
