2009 GABF Winners: Breaking it down

flying-dog-gonzo-imperial-porter

(Denver, CO) – It was a record-breaking year for the Great American Beer Festival. Attendance. Smashed. Number of beers in the competition. Blown to smithereens. Volunteers were up 15% this year. More breweries, more beers being poured, more judges. There is less than a half hour until last call- the last sample will be poured and another GABF will come to a close. While the fest is where the party is at, Saturday is always all about the awards ceremony for the brewers in attendance. Some will go home shrouded in gold, silver, or bronze but most will come away empty-handed. Here is a breakdown of the awards.

The big winner on the day was a California brewery, Pizza Port Carlsbad, bringing home the bacon seven times and being named the Continue reading

Great American Beer Festival (GABF) 2009 Winners Live

The winners list is now available at the GABF 2009 website. Everything below is from my live blog during this afternoon’s ceremony.

Head on over to the live video feed now!

I will be adding commentary to the live winners which will appear in real-time below. Best thing to do would be to have 2 windows open with this and Justin.tv. I will chat with folks over on Justin.tv. See you there!

Great American Beer Festival 2009 and live Saturday results

gabf

The Great American Beer Festival is here once again. It kicked off yesterday and the best coverage I have seen is on Twitter. Just do a search for “gabf” and you can see a few hundred tweets from brewers and people that attended yesterday. More festivities are going on today but tomorrow is the big day because that is when the awards are announced. Over 3,300 entries are being judged as we speak which is a GABF record. It looks like they added over 20 more judges, too.

The live video feed of the Awards Ceremony will be found at http://Justin.tv/brewingnetwork starting at 1pm Mountain time (3pm EST). I will be trying to tally the awards as they are announced here. They read them off so fast I can’t keep up (I remember some comments from folks thinking I was drunk last year!). I will also be in the Justin.tv chatroom during that time. I may not be able to finish posting up the awards because I have to leave at 5pm (EST) to pick up friends from the airport but plenty of blogs will have the full list up later in the afternoon/evening anyway. I will post some analysis later in the evening or on Sunday.

More on this year’s fest below.
