Boulevard plans for Single-Wide IPA release next year

Boulevard Single-Wide IPA

[2/15 Update: The beer was released early! Available in Missouri as of a few days ago.

1/1 Update: The beer is now on tap in Missouri and will be released in bottles in March of next year.

10/30 Update: Boulevard Brewing's Director of Operations, Jeremy Ragonese, graciously provided me with more information after publishing:

Single-Wide IPA will be a member of Boulevard’s year-round core brands, available to all markets in 6-packs, 1/6 bbls and 1/2 bbls beginning in March of 2009. The branding efforts you may have seen are only rough at this point, we’re still in development on labels, packaging, etc. [...] The success of Double-Wide IPA in the Smokestack Series, as well as the relatively few IPAs coming from our region despite the style’s growing popularity, led us to produce a version that would be accessible to a wider market than it’s 750ml cousin.

Brooklyn Brewery drops Black Ops in December

Brooklyn Black Ops

[10/30 Update from Garrett Oliver via Beer Advocate:
"We will release about 900 cases of Black Ops in December. It has been in bourbon barrels for the past four months and will be bottled in a couple of weeks."]

The back label describes this one best:

Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly “Black ops” was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oat notes. They say there are only 1,000 cases. We have no idea what they’re talking about.”

Deschutes to bring back Mirror Mirror, debut Double Cinder Cone in 2009

Deschutes Mirror Mirror

[3/7 Update: It will be available in April.

12/18 Update: Mirror Mirror was brewed during the first week of December. Deschutes' site says total time = 10 months for the first batch. I'd estimate early fall release given they're doing Black Butte in June and The Abyss in late fall.

Double Cinder Cone, mentioned below, is now on tap as well.]

(Bend, OR) – Your eyes do not deceive you. The picture you see above is cropped out of a label approval that came through for Deschutes Brewery a few weeks ago. According to Brewpublic, plans are to release Deschutes Mirror Mirror 2009 Reserve Barley Wine next year. The previous batch of this beer, released to the tune of 63 barrels in early 2006, was brewed in February 2005.

The Ban at Beer Advocate: BN Board Part Deux

Beernews.org Banned :(

A little over a month ago, I was told that links to my site had been banned at Beer Advocate. I sent a couple emails to Todd hoping for clarification though they may have been lost. The ‘Banned for Posting Abuse’ message seems misleading as I haven’t started any threads there linking to my site. What I did find is 80 references to Beernews over at BA over the past several months. “My friends,” that is awesome. I have definitely waited too long in thanking Beer Advocate and everyone else that reads and supports my work by sharing it with others (and allowing links to it). So thank you. And if you’re reading, Todd, I would love to see the site once again OK’ed at BA!

This is just one of the reasons I started the board. And just to be clear, I am not asking for any readers to pull themselves away from another board. I am merely asking you all to add another board onto your daily routine :) From the get-go, I’ve used the site to experiment with giving you a new perspective on craft beer and the BN Board is a continuation of that.

So what’s new with this board? One more post coming later…

A Closer Look at Alaskan Baltic Porter

Alaskan Baltic Porter label(Juneau, AK) – Alaskan Baltic Porter got label approval shortly after my initial post on the beer. The 9.8% ABV level may make it the strongest Baltic Porter on the market with a significant number of reviews. “Brewed with cherries, brown sugar, vanilla beans, and oak chips…” Again, this will be out in bombers come November but not sure how limited yet. Click on the pic to see a bigger version of the label.
